Braydon Worldon died on his 15th birthday in a hit and run in regional NSW

Braydon Worldon

A memorial by the roadside, composed of a few hats, a rabbit trap, and a fishing line, stands in remembrance of a young boy who lost his life in a hit-and-run accident over two years ago in a rural area.

In late March, a coroner in New South Wales is set to scrutinize the circumstances surrounding the passing of Braydon Worldon, tragically killed on his 15th birthday in December 2019.

Braydon's lifeless body was discovered by a passing motorist in the middle of River Road, situated in the small township of Wantabadgery, approximately 40km away from Wagga Wagga. Due to the severity of his injuries, authorities surmise that the vehicle involved was of medium to large size and equipped with a bull bar. Notably, there's no indication that the vehicle applied the brakes.

The identity of the driver remains elusive. Detective Senior Constable Stan Wall, who was present at the scene the night Braydon was found, emphasized, "There would be no reason why you would not see someone on the roadway."

Recalling that fateful night, Wall described the setting as a quiet and isolated stretch of road, well-lit by the moon, with clear visibility and no fog. He elaborated, "A motorist was travelling home from night shift along the road and he came across Braydon's body." Given the sparse traffic on the road, it's conceivable that Braydon had been lying there for hours.

Braydon, who resided nearby with his family, was known for exploring the hills and fishing in local waterways. Det Sen Const Wall provided some context, stating, "He was celebrating his 15th birthday, did a little bit of stock work with his stepfather and ... had a couple of drinks ... his movements after that aren't really well known, except he's located at one o'clock in the morning, 2km from his house, on the road." His last known sighting was around 7.30 pm.
