Startling revelations have come to light concerning the alleged homicide of a two-year-old girl by a resident of Michigan, in collaboration with his former partner. Recently disclosed legal documents unveil astonishing details surrounding the purported abduction and savage slaying of his ex-girlfriend's two-year-old daughter by an individual hailing from Michigan. On Friday, Rashad Maleek Trice, aged 26, was officially charged by the U.S. Department of Justice within the Western District of Michigan, facing allegations of abducting a minor and committing a kidnapping resulting in death. As per investigators, Trice stands accused of fatally wounding and sexually assaulting Wynter Cole-Smith's mother prior to abducting the toddler from her residence in Lansing.
Reportedly, Trice made off with a Chevrolet Impala belonging to the child's maternal grandmother and embarked on a 90-mile journey to St. Claire Shores, a city within the Detroit vicinity. Although an officer made an attempt to apprehend Trice, he swiftly fled and subsequently collided with another police vehicle.
Upon reaching the site of the collision, neither Trice nor Wynter were to be found. However, a substantial volume of blood, consistent with Trice's injuries, was discovered in the vehicle, corroborating the mother's claim of self-defense through stabbing.
During the investigative process, fragments of a pink cell phone charging cord were retrieved from the car.
A horrifying discovery unfolded in the vicinity of the airport. By tracing Trice's travel route via his cell phone, authorities scoured an area near the Coleman A. Young International Airport in Detroit on Wednesday. Shortly before 7 pm, the lifeless body of Wynter was discovered in a nearby alley.
The official cause of Wynter's demise remains under scrutiny by the medical examiner.
"The cause of [Wynter's] passing seems to have been strangulation with a pink cell phone charging cord, which was recovered alongside the body," declared the police. "The pink cell phone charging cord matched the pink cord components discovered in the Chevrolet Impala."
In his interview at the hospital, Trice disavowed any involvement in Wynter's disappearance, according to the official records. He asserted that he had last seen the child with her mother.
Trice purportedly admitted to investigators that he and Wynter's mother engaged in a violent altercation over financial matters on June 2. Both parties allegedly inflicted wounds upon each other during the altercation, as indicated in the records.
"I am already a creature of darkness," Trice conceded. As per the records, he also acknowledged his awareness of the Amber Alert and expressed sentiments along the lines of, "I am already a wretched being." Trice further divulged his desire to put an end to his own existence. In a strategic maneuver during the interview, the FBI Agent informed Trice that video surveillance footage depicted him and [Wynter] together in the vehicle. Trice stated that if law enforcement were to show him the video footage, he would be compelled to admit his involvement.
Text messages submitted as evidence reveal Trice's uncle beseeching him through text messages at 3:06 a.m., less than half an hour after authorities issued an Amber Alert to locate Wynter and the suspect. "I hold affection for you, my friend, please," the uncle messaged Trice. "Come to me, Ray. The guilt is not yours; the girl is the embodiment of malevolence."
Allegedly, Trice responded, saying, "I cherish you all, but I must bring this situation to a close, my friend."
Federal records indicate that authorities affirmed, "There is ample evidence to support the claim that [Wynter] was slain by Trice and left in the alley, where her lifeless form was found."
The defendant faces charges in Macomb County, Michigan, including charges of attempting to elude capture, endeavoring to disarm an officer, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, assault with a dangerous weapon, obstructing and resisting causing injury, and three counts of obstructing and resisting a police officer.
"A heartrending twist" "Sadly, this case has taken a heartrending twist as we must now confront the distressing reality that this precious young girl, brimming with limitless potential, was ruthlessly snatched from us," expressed Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. "The alleged deeds that transpired in our neighboring county are nothing short of abhorrent."
Trice was arraigned on Wednesday in Ingham County, facing charges of intending to commit murder, two counts of criminal sexual conduct, home intrusion, illegal confinement, aggravated domestic violence (second offense), unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle, and felonious assault.
