Pedro Rodrigues: The Serial Killer Who Cut Out Heart of His Father

Pedro Rodrigues

Pedro Rodrigues Filho emerged as a Brazilian serial murderer, spree assailant, and avenger of justice who gained prominence in his formative years by singling out and executing individuals whom he suspected of engaging in criminal deeds. He embarked on a spree of bloodshed spanning the years between his fourteenth and nineteenth, including the annihilation of an entire gang as a response to the heinous slaying of his expectant paramour. Despite receiving convictions for seventy-one murders, he boldly asserted to have dispatched over a hundred drug peddlers, rapists, and assassins. His eventual release in 2007 transpired after an incarceration spanning a duration of thirty-four years, with each murder accounting for approximately twenty-five weeks of imprisonment.

Genesis of a Malefactor Rodrigues made his entry into this world on a rustic farm nestled within Santa Rita do Sapuca, Brazil, situated in the southern reaches of Minas Gerais. Tragically, his prenatal period was marred by an in utero injury inflicted when his father, during a contentious altercation, delivered a blow to his gravid mother’s abdomen, resulting in a contused cranium.

Rodrigues’s initial step onto the path of infamy transpired at the tender age of fourteen, an act that would pave the way for his nefarious destiny. He took aim at the deputy mayor of Santa Rita do Sapuca in full view of the municipal edifice, precipitating the incident following his father’s dismissal from his post as a school sentinel, the result of allegations of food pilfering from the institution’s kitchen.

Subsequently, he turned his grandfather’s shotgun toward the security sentinel, the individual he suspected to be the actual purloiner, the discharge of the firearm echoing his sentiments. Seeking refuge in Mogi das Cruzes, a municipality within Greater São Paulo, he commenced a spree of pilferage from drug enclaves and the elimination of narcotics traffickers. The media promptly dubbed his actions those of a “vigilante.”

The Odyssey of Rodrigues Rodrigues’s fateful rendezvous with Maria Aparecida Olympia, also acknowledged as Botinha, ensued upon his arrival in Mogi das Cruzes, where their lives became interwoven. Swiftly, Rodrigues became enmeshed in the fold of a local street gang, subsequently assuming the roles and responsibilities of a deceased cohort. During his tenure amongst the gang’s ranks, he was “compelled” to extinguish the lives of select adversaries, culminating in the demise of three erstwhile associates.

The burgeoning life within Botinha was prematurely snuffed out at the hands of a rival gang chieftain. Despite his youth, Rodrigues embarked on a vengeful rampage, relentlessly pursuing and ruthlessly slaying each member of the opposing faction.

The Chronicles of Pedro Rodrigues Filho Pedro Rodrigues Filho’s ensuing execution was again motivated by retribution, this time targeting none other than his progenitor – the same individual he had previously dispatched at another’s behest. His father had been incarcerated for the murder of Rodrigues’s mother, an act carried out with a machete. Visiting his incarcerated progenitor, Rodrigues seized the opportunity for payback, plunging a blade into his flesh twenty-two times. Shockingly, he escalated his macabre endeavor, extracting his father’s heart and indulging in a grisly act of consumption.

Barred and Bolted Rodrigues’s criminal escapades finally caught up with him, culminating in his initial apprehension on May 24, 1973, at the age of nineteen. The lion’s share of his adult existence was spent behind bars, where his predilection for brutality persisted. While in transit alongside another detainee, Rodrigues perpetrated yet another slaying, both individuals ensnared within the shackles of law enforcement.

Upon interrogation regarding the aforementioned slaying, Rodrigues professed the victim to be a rapist. Notwithstanding a sentence amounting to a hundred and twenty-six years, he was poised for release in 2003, as Brazilian legislation at the time imposed a cap of thirty years’ incarceration. (This was subsequently extended to forty years in 2019.) Ultimately, Rodrigues emerged into the world once more on April 24, 2007, having weathered thirty-four years in confinement. Following his release, reports place him in Fortaleza, Ceará.

A Revolving Door of Incarceration However, Rodrigues’s liberty proved to be ephemeral, his re-arrest transpiring on September 15, 2011, at his rural residence, where he served as a custodian. He was adjudged guilty of incitement to riot and unlawful detention, offenses committed during his detainment in São Paulo. Consequently, he faced an eight-year term of imprisonment, from which he emerged on December 10, 2018, credited with seven years of good behavior.

Renewed Incarceration Rodrigues’s second release marked yet another turning point, as he was implicated in the slayings of forty-seven fellow inmates, believing these actions to be a fitting reprisal for their own criminal transgressions. Interviews suggested that Rodrigues derived pleasure and elation from ending the lives of his felonious counterparts, expressing this sentiment with a degree of jubilation. His preferred modus operandi involved the puncturing or slashing of flesh with a bladed implement.

Rodrigues was released on December 10, 2018.

Pedro Rodrigues Filho met his demise on March 5, 2023, when he was felled by gunfire originating from a moving vehicle in Mogi das Cruzes. The assailants made their escape in a separate automobile, leaving behind a scene devoid of suspects in their wake.
