Cesar Olalde, an 18-year-old, is currently accused of perpetrating the grievous crime of capital murder by taking the lives of several individuals, including his parents, sister, and brother. Reports from various news outlets suggest that this Texan adolescent was apprehended on murder charges subsequent to authorities discovering his belief that his family members were conspiring as "cannibals," intending to consume him.
The case of Cesar Olalde, aged 18, revolves around allegations of capital murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his parents - Reuben Olalde and Aida Garcia - along with his sister, Lisbet Olalde, and his brother, Oliver Olalde. These details were reported by NBC News, KSLA, and Fox 23.
Olalde was taken into custody on May 23 after an altercation in Nash, a small town near the Arkansas state line. Local law enforcement responded to a report involving a man who had caused harm to his family and was threatening self-harm, according to NBC News. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Olalde barricaded within a residence and were informed of multiple casualties within the premises, as detailed in a press release.
As per a probable cause affidavit obtained by NBC News, Olalde subsequently contacted the authorities and admitted to firing the fatal shots that took the lives of his family members.
Following negotiations, Olalde surrendered, allowing the police to access the residence where they found the deceased bodies of four individuals, as per the press release.
"The victims were discovered in various sections of the house and later moved to the bathroom," authorities stated in the affidavit, as cited by Fox 23. The floors yielded "multiple spent cartridge casings," alongside indications of "blood spatter on numerous surfaces."
According to KSLA, Lisbet's colleague visited their home upon her failure to show up for work on that day. Receiving no response, the colleague sought the help of a family member to gain entry into the house, only to be confronted by Cesar Olalde, who reportedly aimed a firearm at them.
As per the affidavit, the co-worker informed the police that Olalde confessed to the killing of his family, claiming they were cannibals plotting to devour him, as reported by NBC News.
To assist in covering the funeral expenses, the loved ones of the victims have initiated a GoFundMe page.
The fundraiser's message states, "In a tragic turn of events that surpass even the depths of my worst nightmares, my entire family - my hardworking father, my caring and loving mother, my vivacious and ambitious sister, and my amazing, funny, and joyful younger brother - met their untimely demise."
Nash police revealed that Olalde is detained in the Bi-State Jail in Texarkana, Texas. His bail is set at $10 million, as reported by KSLA, and it remains uncertain whether he has entered a plea. According to the outlet, Olalde is being represented by public defender Jeff Harrelson. PEOPLE magazine was unable to promptly reach Harrelson for comment.
Authorities have affirmed that the investigation is ongoing and have urged anyone with pertinent information to contact the Nash, Texas Police Department at (903)-838-0822.
