Murder of Leanne Holland, Goodna, Queensland

Unearthed evidence emanating from a concealed police inquiry may harbor the pivotal insights necessary to unveil the perpetrator behind the tragic demise of Leanne Holland, a 12-year-old, in 1991.

The deceased schoolgirl was discovered in a prone position in Goodna, Queensland, over a quarter-century ago. Allegedly, the array of potential suspects was distilled down to a singular individual, Graham Stafford.

Stafford endured nearly 15 years of incarceration for Leanne's murder before his conviction was annulled, prompting a retrial in 2009. However, the Director of Public Prosecutions opted against a retrial, leading to the closure of the investigation by the police in 2012.

Channel 7 acquired the review conducted by Queensland Police five years later, unveiling its contents on Murder Uncovered during a Wednesday night broadcast. The program disclosed that the police had successfully eliminated 15 candidates, leaving only Stafford as the prime suspect.

Maintaining steadfastly that he is innocent, Stafford's vehicular environment was scrutinized in the report, revealing that a maggot discovered in his car precisely corresponded to those found on Leanne's body. Additionally, imprints on Leanne's buttock and thigh were identified as an exact match to the mat in the trunk of Stafford's specific car model, as illustrated in the extensive 500-page review.

During the program, Stafford rebuffed a polygraph examination, only for the results of an independently arranged test to be deemed 'inconclusive.'

Leveraging advanced technology, the police also detected traces of the 12-year-old's blood using DNA analysis on a recently hung shower curtain in the bathroom of her residence, where Leanne was purportedly engaged in hair dyeing.

In response to the revelation, Stafford expressed skepticism, stating, 'Yeah, well, I'm just being, you know, stitched up again. Why would I be putting myself in this position if I had actually committed the crime? Wouldn't I have just gone to ground and kept quiet?'

Leanne's lifeless body, brutalized beyond recognition with her skirt pulled above her waist, was discovered on September 26, 1991, in Goodna, situated to the west of Brisbane.
