Authorities persist in scouring a section of the Ohio River on Monday for James Robert Hutchinson, who was declared missing Sunday morning by his mother, 29-year-old Brittany Gosney. When interrogated by the police, Gosney and her 42-year-old companion, James Hamilton, asserted that the boy met his demise elsewhere, brought back to Middletown, and eventually submerged in the river. Gosney and Hamilton were scheduled for their preliminary court appearances later on Monday, and it remained uncertain whether either had engaged legal representation.
According to court records disclosed by WHIO-TV, Gosney asserted that Hutchinson met his end at a park in southern Preble County. Gosney narrated that she transported the boy to the park with the intention of abandoning him there, but he endeavored to re-enter the vehicle. The boy was ensnared by the vehicle and sustained a fatal head injury. Gosney recounted that she returned shortly afterward to discover him lifeless.
Gosney acknowledged bringing her son's lifeless body back to their residence in Middletown. Subsequently, she conveyed the remains to an undisclosed location along the Ohio River and disposed of them the following day.
Gosney faces charges of murder, while both she and Hamilton are accused of abusing a corpse and tampering with evidence.
