Peggy Johnson's body was discovered

Authorities have discerned the identity of the woman whose remains were discovered two decades ago in a cornfield in Wisconsin. Following a span of twenty years, the authorities in Wisconsin have finally unveiled the identity of the woman whose remains were unearthed in a cornfield. She is none other than Peggy Lynn Johnson, aged 23 at the time of her demise. Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling disclosed that Johnson hailed from McHenry, Illinois, where she spent her formative years.

Regrettably, her immediate family, comprising her mother, father, and brother, have all passed away. She leaves behind a sister whom she never had the chance to meet. Subsequent to her mother's demise, Johnson sought refuge at a medical facility, where she encountered Linda LaRoche, a registered nurse, who extended her hospitality.

Johnson resided with LaRoche for five years, during which she endured protracted and harrowing mistreatment, as per Schmaling's statement. Linda LaRoche was apprehended in Cape Coral, Florida, on Tuesday, under suspicion of Johnson's murder. She has consented to extradition and will imminently be returned to Wisconsin.

LaRoche faces charges of first-degree premeditated murder and concealing a corpse. According to the criminal complaint, the Racine County Sheriff’s Office received a tip on Sept. 23 from a concerned citizen alleging that LaRoche had confessed to the killing of a woman during her time in Illinois.

In 1999, LaRoche resided in McHenry, Illinois, with her then-spouse and their five offspring, three of whom dwelled with them, while the remaining two lived nearby. In October, investigators interviewed one of LaRoche's children, who corroborated Johnson's presence in their household. Furthermore, LaRoche's children attested to her abusive behavior towards Johnson, indicating that it was not uncommon for Johnson to display signs of physical trauma inflicted by LaRoche.

LaRoche's former spouse corroborated her pattern of severe mistreatment towards Johnson. Subsequently, investigators commenced questioning LaRoche on Nov. 5, during which she confessed to subjecting Johnson to abuse between 1994 and 1999.

LaRoche recounted the night of Johnson's disappearance, alleging that she discovered Johnson holding pills at the kitchen counter. According to LaRoche, Johnson disposed of the pills down the drain upon inquiry, subsequently fainting moments later. LaRoche asserted that she escorted Johnson outside for fresh air. Eventually, LaRoche confessed to driving Johnson to Wisconsin and leaving her by the roadside, claiming Johnson was uninjured when she departed.

Johnson was never reported missing and was interred under the pseudonym Jane Doe in Caledonia. In the ensuing weeks, Johnson will be laid to rest alongside her mother in Belvidere, Illinois, as stated by Schmaling.
