The Disappearance of Jarrett Brooks

Sixteen-year-old Jarrett Brooks was last observed in Joseph City, Arizona on July 4, 2023. He vanished in the early hours of the morning subsequent to departing from his familial abode on the Fourth of July. Jarrett Thomas Brooks, born on December 7, 2006, to Laura and Brian Brooks, finds himself amidst the siblings, numbering seven. At the juncture of his disappearance, he resided with his family on Boyce Drive in Joseph City, Arizona.

Jarrett frequently undertook general upkeep tasks for various ranchers in the vicinity and was an active participant in the Explorer Program affiliated with the Joseph City Fire District. His educational tutelage was overseen by his mother.

On July 3, 2023, Jarrett’s progenitors discovered his illicit off-road excursion in his father's vehicle, resulting in the rupture of the CV axle. As a disciplinary measure, he was confined to the homestead, his cellular device confiscated before retiring between 9:00 – 10:00 pm.

Upon awakening at approximately 6:15 am on July 4, 2023, Jarrett inquired of his mother regarding the extent of his confinement, whether it pertained solely to driving or encompassed broader restrictions. She apprised him of his comprehensive restriction, forbidding his participation in any Fourth of July revelries or the restitution of his cellular device.

During the early hours of that day, between 6:00 – 7:00 am, Jarrett was captured on familial surveillance appropriating a handgun from his father’s secure repository. Subsequently, at around 6:30 am, he absconded from his familial abode in the 4400 block of Boyce Drive, proximate to Interstate 40, in Joseph City, Arizona. Initially, his kin presumed his departure to be in pursuit of dog-walking.

Jarrett Brooks failed to reappear at his domicile that day and has remained incommunicado since. At approximately 12:30 pm, in light of his non-return, his family lodged a report of his juvenile flight with the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office.

A young man resembling Jarrett was reportedly sighted at a neighboring ranch on Lacy Lane, traversing the pasture whilst in possession of a handgun, around 7:00 am on July 4, 2023.

Upon the neighbor’s subsequent attempt to approach him, approximately 10 minutes later on Haul Road, the young man had vanished.

An extensive search for Jarrett was conducted in the vicinity, with canine units tracing his scent until it dissipated on the western periphery of the town. Subsequently, eyewitnesses claimed sightings of Jarrett in Winslow, Arizona, approximately 22 miles distant.

Jarrett lacked a banking account, and his wallet, containing his driver’s license, was discovered abandoned within his vehicle. At the time of his disappearance, he was in possession of a pocketknife, as well as his father’s firearm.

Authorities postulate that Jarrett may have ventured towards Winslow, Arizona, or alternatively to San Antonio, Austin, Temple, or Stamford, Texas.

On January 3, 2024, multiple search warrants were executed in Joseph County and Phoenix in connection with Jarrett’s disappearance. Law enforcement agencies assert that these warrants focus on digital forensic evidence and cyber communications. The investigation remains ongoing, with no apprehensions made thus far.

No indications of nefarious machinations surrounding Jarrett Brooks’ disappearance have surfaced. A reward of $50,000, contributed by anonymous benefactors, is proffered for information facilitating Jarrett’s secure reunion with his family.
