A Houston father killed his girlfriend's brother in front of his kids

A resident of Houston has been condemned to spend his life incarcerated subsequent to the fatal shooting of his girlfriend’s sibling, who endeavored to facilitate her escape from a situation of domestic violence, as articulated by Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg on Saturday.

“Domestic turmoil does not merely impact the individual subjected to abuse; it casts a shadow over the entire kinship,” Ogg expounded. “Regrettably, instances of domestic discord often culminate in homicide, and this incident exemplifies the dire reality that a kin can lose their life while endeavoring to extricate a loved one from an abusive liaison.”

Kempsha L. Wilson, aged 28, was sentenced on Thursday subsequent to a trial for the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Spencer Nichols in the presence of his offspring on February 15, 2022. The event unfolded at an apartment complex in the southwest region of Houston on Kipp Way Drive.

The preceding day of the shooting coincided with Valentine’s Day. Wilson and his paramour engaged in a dispute due to his communication with another lady, leading to physical aggression against his paramour.

In an attempt to signal her desire for him to vacate the premises, the paramour brandished a firearm and discharged it at Wilson, albeit without causing injury. Subsequently, she summoned her brother, Nichols, for assistance.

“Upon Nichols’ arrival, Wilson reappeared at the apartment armed with an AK-47-style rifle and issued threats to both her and Nichols, although the latter managed to compel Wilson to depart.

Eventually, Nichols escorted his sister and her two juvenile daughters to his residence for the night owing to apprehensions for their safety,” the office of the district attorney affirmed.

The subsequent day, Nichols, his sister, and her daughters returned to their domicile to alter attire. Nichols’ trio of children accompanied them.

During their sojourn within, Wilson arrived at the premises equipped with a handgun, accompanied by two other armed associates.

Wilson’s paramour endeavored to fend off the assailants with her pistol, but Wilson wrested it from her grasp.

Brandishing a pistol in each hand, he confronted Nichols in front of the apartment, resorting to physical violence by striking him with a firearm.

Subsequently, Wilson aimed one of the pistols at Nichols’ chest and discharged it in the presence of his three children. Wilson and his accomplices promptly absconded from the vicinity.

The suspect was apprehended nine days later. Wilson had previously served three terms of incarceration before this transgression.

Harris County Assistant District Attorneys Jason Campo, who holds the position of chief within the Trial Bureau, and Gabriel Kabak undertook the prosecution of the case.

“The victim simply sought to fulfill his fraternal duty by safeguarding his sister, yet tragically, it resulted in the forfeiture of his own life,” Campo lamented. “Given the defendant’s history of recidivism and continued infliction of harm upon others, the jury concurred that a life sentence was warranted.”
