An Oklahoma woman stands accused of subjecting her 72-year-old mother, afflicted with dementia, to such relentless scorn that the elderly woman chose to end her own life using a firearm provided by her daughter.
Jaye Dee Watts, aged 44, faces charges of felony murder through caretaker abuse and kidnapping, as announced by authorities in Oklahoma City on Wednesday. Although Lynda Watts took her own life on September 10th, it is Jaye Dee Watts, her primary caregiver, who is held accountable, according to law enforcement officials.
Footage from a surveillance camera inside the residence purportedly captures Jaye Dee Watts berating her mother, as revealed by Oklahoma City's ABC affiliate KOCO.
Reportedly, she referred to her elderly mother as a mere child and callously uttered, “Take your pill or choke on it and perish.”
“Oh, I’m nurturing a 72-year-old child,” she purportedly remarked. “I am entitled to address you in any manner I deem appropriate.”
Subsequently, she exited the room only to return bearing a handgun. Demonstrating to her mother how to extract the firearm from its holster, she callously remarked, “Do with it as you will, dear.”
Watts then fetched a drill and informed her mother of her intention to confine her to the bedroom, according to details provided in the KOCO report.
Moments later, Lynda discharged two rounds, ending her own life, according to law enforcement officials.
“She insinuated that her mother end her own life,” disclosed police Sgt. Dillon Quirk to the outlet. “Regrettably, her mother complied.” Allegedly, Jaye Dee Watts expressed to authorities, “The burden of being a caregiver round-the-clock is exasperating,” as reported by KOTV. She was subsequently released on a $1 million bond, as per officials.
