Disappearance of
Aubrey Dameron
Aubrey Dameron, a 25-year-old citizen of the Cherokee
Nation, was last seen around 3:30 am on March 9, 2019, leaving her mother's
house near Grove, Oklahoma. Aubrey, who was transitioning and identified as a
transgender woman, told her family she was going to meet someone, but she never
returned.
Aubrey Dameron was born on October 22, 1993, and grew up in
a family that later became her main support system. She had recently moved back
to her family's home in rural Oklahoma in August 2018 after leaving an abusive
relationship in New Mexico. Aubrey was known for her compassionate nature,
often helping those in need, and had dreams of becoming a singer. She
identified as a two-spirit person, a Native American term for individuals
embodying both male and female spirits.
Disappearance
On the night of her disappearance, Aubrey left without her
purse and essential anti-epilepsy medications. The family reported her missing
to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office on March 11, 2019, after they were
unable to contact her.
The investigation into Aubrey's disappearance has been
challenging, with several confusing leads and allegations. Her family feared
she might have been the victim of a hate crime due to her identity as a
transgender woman. Despite extensive searches and the involvement of various
organizations, including the (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
USA) and Crossroads K9 SAR, no significant evidence has surfaced.
March 16, 2019: Unconfirmed sightings of Aubrey were
reported at a casino in Joplin, Missouri.
March 23, 2019: A search team found a bloody sock about a
half-mile from her home, but the results from the Oklahoma State Bureau
Investigation were inconclusive.
Summer 2019: A shallow grave with a black leather jacket was
found near Kenwood, but DNA results were inconclusive.
November 2019: A search by Crossroads K9 SAR in Louisiana
yielded no results.
Aubrey's cell phone last pinged around 3:42 am on the night
of her disappearance, about 100 yards from her mother's house before it was
either turned off or died.
As of now, there is no conclusive evidence regarding
Aubrey's whereabouts. Her case remains unsolved and is classified as a missing
persons case. The FBI is involved in the investigation, but no definitive leads
have emerged.
