Missing Terri Ackerman

Terri Ackerman departed her daughter Ambyr’s residence on the afternoon of Thursday, August 23, 2018, with a buoyant spirit. Embracing Ambyr and her grandchildren tenderly, she bid them farewell, promising a reunion in the morning. After this warm parting, the 56-year-old embarked on the 25-minute journey to her abode in Lochbuie, Colorado. Around 4:30 pm, she phoned Ambyr to reassure her of her safe return home.

However, a couple of hours later, Terri contacted Ambyr again, this time in tears. Overwhelmed with distress, she explained her inability to watch over Ambyr's children the following day, offering no explanation for this sudden change aside from her prolonged fatigue. Encouraging Terri to rest, Ambyr assumed her mother would retire for the night after their call—a notion shattered by fate, as it turned out to be their final conversation.

Ambyr, burdened with a 12-hour shift as a 911 dispatcher, found herself unable to secure coverage for her duties on Friday. Consequently, her fiancé, Jesse, sacrificed a day's work to care for their children. Rising before dawn, Ambyr commenced her shift, leaving Jesse and their children still steeped in slumber. Their tranquil morning was abruptly interrupted by an unexpected visit from Delbert, Terri's husband, at 6:00 am.

Delbert's unannounced arrival puzzled Jesse, as neither he nor Terri had forewarned them of this change in plans. Despite Jesse's insistence that he didn't require assistance, Delbert lingered, justifying his presence due to the effort of his journey.

Remaining until approximately 11 a.m., Delbert temporarily departed to visit a nearby dispensary before returning to aid Jesse in repairing a fence. Departing at 1:30 pm, Delbert left the household.

Upon Ambyr's return from work later that afternoon, Jesse recounted the peculiar events of the day involving Delbert. While Ambyr acknowledged the oddity of the situation, it wasn't until 8 p.m. when Delbert's call signaling Terri's disappearance plunged them into alarm.

Delbert disclosed that Terri had been asleep in bed when he departed that morning, only to return and find her absent, leaving behind her possessions save for her prescription medications. Alarmed, Delbert initiated a search and reported her missing to the Lochbuie Police Department at 6 p.m. that evening, perplexing Ambyr with the delayed notification.

Apprehensive of her mother's absence, Ambyr swiftly concluded that Terri hadn't left of her own volition. Terri's profound attachment to her family and her lack of acquaintances in Colorado dissuaded Ambyr from considering any voluntary departure.

Terri's upbringing in a devout Southern Baptist household was fraught with undiagnosed mental health struggles until adulthood, when therapy revealed her battle with bipolar disorder. The advent of medication brought about a positive transformation, fostering a newfound closeness with her sister Kim.

Having served in the army for over a decade, Terri eventually settled in Maryland, where she crossed paths with Delbert Ackerman in 2011. Their swift courtship culminated in marriage, followed by relocation to Colorado.

Close to her mother, Ambyr relocated to Colorado, initially residing with Terri and Delbert before establishing her own household nearby. Terri assumed the role of caretaker for Ambyr's grandchildren, embodying a tranquil existence of familial devotion and simple pleasures.

Upon learning of Terri's absence, Kim hastened to Colorado, intending to escort their mother back home. Kim harbored concerns regarding Terri's relationship with Delbert, perceiving his domineering demeanor with unease.

Reports from close confidants indicated Terri's contemplation of divorce in the weeks preceding her disappearance, evidenced by her financial preparations and expressions of discontent to her friend Geraldine.

Ambyr's subsequent visit to Delbert's home unveiled unsettling details, including Christopher's evasive behavior and Delbert's uncharacteristically absent truck.

Despite exhaustive search efforts and family appeals for information, Terri's fate remained shrouded in mystery. Ambyr's apprehension grew as the passage of time failed to yield any answers, exacerbated by perceived disparities in media coverage compared to other cases.

While police investigations yielded no conclusive evidence of foul play, Terri's family harbored suspicions toward Delbert and Christopher, spurred by unsettling anecdotes and circumstantial evidence.

Despite Delbert's compliance with a polygraph test, Christopher's refusal raised further doubts. Chief McCoy, while acknowledging the concerning nature of the case, maintained a stance of neutrality, lacking substantive evidence to support allegations of foul play.

Terri's family, undeterred by the lack of closure, persisted in their quest for truth, clinging to hope for resolution in the face of uncertainty. Terri's absence, a void keenly felt by her loved ones, serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring quest for justice in the wake of inexplicable loss.
