The search for a missing teenager in Ann Arbor has ended in tragedy, as the body of 15-year-old Adriana Davidson was discovered near the football field at Pioneer High School.
Davidson had not returned home from school on Friday, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance left her family deeply concerned about possible foul play. However, authorities have stated that, at this time, foul play is not suspected. Officials confirmed that a sheriff's department K-9 unit found her body near the athletic fields around 1 p.m. on Monday.
Before her body was found, Davidson’s father, John, informed 7 Action News that the last time he heard from his daughter was Friday morning when she boarded an Ann Arbor public bus to head to Pioneer High School. When she failed to return home and did not answer any calls or messages, her father contacted the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.
"There are certainly some suspicious elements to this case," said Derrick Jackson, director of Community Engagement at the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
Jackson added that the sheriff’s office had obtained footage from the public bus, showing that Adriana arrived at school on Friday but left shortly after. According to her friends, she wasn't feeling well. The video then captures her returning to the school around noon, though she never entered the building. That was the last confirmed sighting of her.
One of Adriana's close friends saw her leaving school and texted her, asking, "You straight?" Adriana replied, "No."
Later, her phone was found on the high school’s tennis courts.
“What teenage girl just walks away, leaving her phone behind, without contacting anyone?” Jackson pondered.
The Ann Arbor Police Department will now lead the investigation.
